An Artful Retreat in Southsea
Tucked underneath my home in Southsea is a small self-contained apartment filled with original artwork and thoughtful details.
Created as a calm and creative space, it offers guests the opportunity to stay inside an artist’s world — surrounded by paintings, colour, and quiet inspiration.
Whether you are visiting the coast, taking time to write or draw, or simply love staying somewhere with character and story, this little retreat offers a warm and welcoming base.
The Space
The apartment is newly refurbished and designed with the same attention to detail that I bring to my paintings and interiors.
Inside you will find:
• Original artwork by Winniemay throughout the space
• A hand-painted Chinoiserie-style fireplace
• A comfortable double bedroom
• A relaxed living space with sofa bed
• A well equipped kitchen
• Modern shower room
The apartment sleeps one guest comfortably, or a couple sharing.
Located in a quiet conservation area of Southsea, it is only a short walk to the sea, independent cafés, and Portsmouth’s historic waterfront, not to mention art galleries and street art.
A Stay for Artists & Lovers of Art
Many guests enjoy the apartment simply as a peaceful coastal stay.
But for those interested in creativity, the space also offers something a little different.
As a practising artist and fine art PHD researcher I occasionally offer optional creative mentoring conversations during a stay.
These can include:
• Informal studio conversations
• Guidance for artists developing their practice
• Advice on murals, painting, or creative careers
• Encouragement for those returning to art after a break
These sessions are relaxed and optional, and can be arranged after booking.

At the end of the garden sits a developing garden studio space.

Donna Poingdestre (Winniemay) is a contemporary artist and portrait painter whose work explores memory, people, and forgotten photographs.
Her work spans portraiture, murals, and decorative Chinoiserie painting, and she regularly teaches workshops and mentors emerging artists.
